ANKARAGUCU ON TOP OF EAST LOTHIAN

Greetings Kankas and Kankies.

Well, it’s not Mount Kilimanjaro, but it’s the highest point in East Lothian!

The Law rises 615 feet above the town of North Berwick and it is as steep a climb as you will find. Only the fit and the brave can attempt it !

So Paddy Kanka Paul and yours truly made the ascent (without oxygen tanks I may add !) on Thursday 29 January with the North Sea wind doing its best to blow us off at the summit.

Another first then for the now world famous Ankaragucu scarf !

Surely inspiration for Mountaineering Kanka Robbie to attempt another of the world’s peak’s this summer says I ?!

Photos show the summit with the famous whalebones and the Firth of Forth in the background. Also, Eski Kanka taking a breather at the half way point to garner strength for the final push to the summit !!

All the best from Eski Kanka Jim

Now I see from where Saddam Hussein got his inspiration.

Well done Sir Eski Kanka, and well done to Paddy Kanka Paul who was no doubt the sherpa of the expedition ie had to pull the old bugger up the hill.

  2. Possibly unfair, but ............ probably true !!!

In photo No2, forgot to mention the harbour area of North Berwick below and the island of Craigleith.

I'm back in Ankara tonight and homesick already !!!

Congratulations on the summit. We shouldn't underestimate the difficulty involved in climbing a "hill". 615 ft. may not sound like much until you remember that a 10 foot fall can kill you. I'm sure there were perils galore. There will be more summits claimed for Gucu in the near future. I'm thinking a large group trip up Hasan Dagi in early May? Anyone up for it?

  4. That's a good 'un and I wish Mountaineering Kanka and his band of merry men success.

However, I'm in training at the moment for an attempt on Largo Law which is in Kirkaldy Kanka's domain.

C'mon you Gencler boys. Time for you to join the fun and ...... the challenge !!
