Genclerbirligi scrape through with a lucky draw

I could easily be writing this as a report on a disastrous 6-2 loss but instead we grabbed a point. Amazing really

Fenerbahce 2 - 2 Genclerbirligi

First half and Gencler were rubbish. Fenerbahce weren't playing particularly brilliant football (Besiktas midweek were much better opponents) but Gencler were woeful. Stupid passes, inability to hit an open man when a great chance for goal opened up and fouls, lots of them. There was some really stupid play happening with Kamal Issah in particular being needlessly reckless. He had a yellow, was lucky not to get a second and then was pulled off and replaced only 29 minutes in.

Our best player for the whole match was the side post. Fener hit it at least twice in the first half and once in the second. Boy, oh boy... that first half was just a continuous shaking of heads and muffled swearing at the Alerta Bar.

The shaking of heads continued in the 45th minute when Jailton sent in a cross that went straight to the lone Fener defender who simply headed it .... into the goal!

First half finished Fener 0 - 1 Gencler.

Second half and Fener looked again like they would put 15 past us. They drew level just a minute in with a wonderful individual goal and then they took the lead not long later with a weird sort of back heel goal.

We thought it was all going to collapse but Gencler finally started to play some good football. Fener were clearly the better team but at leat we were putting up a bit of a fight.

We got back in it when Milinkovich tapped in after a good attack.

The last 20 minutes were nailbiting but somehow we held on...Phew!
