ANKARAGUCU ON THE BRINK OF A RETURN TO THE SUPER LEAGUE !

 The National Anthem pre-match !

Greetings Kankas and Kankies.

It is ALMOST time to party, however, let’s keep the champagne on ice for the time being.   It’s not over until it’s over !!!

Ankaragucu now sit in 2nd top position and if that remains the same for the last two matches then we can celebrate our return to the Super League.

Thanks mainly yesterday to Balikesir for climbing back from 0-1 down against Umran....spit....iye to snatch a point and denying them the win they were seeking.   So, with only two matches remaining it is all in Ankaragucu’s hands.   Also, it is still mathematically possible to be promoted as champions, but that would depend on Rize screwing up.

Yesterday ............

ANKARAGUCU    4         Gazisehir        0

Team – Korcan, Erdem, Yusuf, Gencer, Ferhat, Kenan, Arif, Mbamba, Parlak, Kehinde and Umut.

Substitutes used – Szukala, Tonia and Sedat

Maniac Kanka Harun and I met up in his Sports Shop where I received this top designed by Tshirtmatik.   Also, as you can see in the photo, my pre-match prediction was spot-on !!!!

We met-up with the remainder of the kankas in the Stadium – Battle Damaged Kanka Damon, Nurer Kanka, Kaleci Kanka Tansu, Posh Kanka Ahmet and Vittoria Kanka Miguel.

As you can see in the first photo, there were empty spaces in the stadium due to partial bans for some group using naughty language at previous matches ..... tut tut tut !!!    However, Maraton and Kapali were full.    About 200 brave souls in the away end who stopped singing after Ankaragucu’s first goal and remained silent from that point on !!!

It was pretty much honours even up until the 19th minute when Ankaragucu opened the scoring.    A free kick was floated in from the right and headed in brilliantly by a defender (Ismail) who was under pressure and no doubt trying to head the ball over the bar.

The goal didn’t interrupt Gazi’s insistence on attack but the Ankaragucu defence was looking solid.    Special mention here for Gencer who is developing into a safe central defender and commanding figure.

The 2nd goal came on the half hour mark and was down to persistence from Mbamba on the right touchline to win a 50/50 ball.   His measured pass was picked up by Kenan who crossed into the box.   Umut dummied the ball to allow the unmarked Parlak to stroke the ball in for a well constructed goal.

Gazi upped their pressing forward and had two excellent chances just before the half time whistle.   Firstly, a header whizzed just past the post, but it looked to me that Korcan had it covered anyway.   Secondly, on the stroke of half time, another header just past with this time Korcan beaten.

So, all credit to Ankaragucu going in 2-0 at half time, but Gazi was still looking dangerous and I was hoping that the defence would deny them a goal to sniff a point.   The 3rd goal was imperative for Ankaragucu to put the sword in and put the match to bed !

Gazi came out with all guns blazing in the 2nd half and had two chances to claw their way back into the match.   Firstly, another header just past, and then Korcan came to the rescue with a parry from a goal bound shot.   The rebound came back off the post and cleared with sighs of relief all round !

Ankaragucu received the ‘wake-up call’ and responded positively with the 3rd goal.   Nice work from Parlak down the left wing and a measured pass to Umut who directed his angled shot from left to right across the goalkeeper and in !

It was almost 4 a few minutes later when Mbamba sent Kehinde through.    He avoided an attempted tackle and drove his shot in, but it hit the post and out.

I know that Harun nominated Parlak as his Man of the Match, and to be fair it was a much improved performance from him after his previous showings.    However, I have to nominate Mbamba for his all round efforts yesterday.    He covered every blade of grass and was an inspiration to his team mates.    Umut also had another fine match.

It was left to our captain, Sedat, who came on with 15 minutes to go to score and put the cherry on top of the cake !    With 5 minutes remaining he won a tackle inside Gazi’s half and took off chasing the rebounded ball.    The Gazi defence were caught off guard and so Sedat had the easiest chance by coolly curling the ball around the goalkeeper and in for number 4.

So, to next weekend and the matches will all be played on Saturday KO 3.30pm.

Ankaragucu will be away at 2nd bottom Manisa who are already relegated, so we will be looking for another professional performance from Ankaragucu to stay in 2nd top spot.

Umran.....spit.....iye face leaders Rize at home in what is undoubtedly the Match of the Day, and the result will obviously have a bearing on Ankaragucu’s situation !

Bolu, 3 points behind Ankaragucu, face Es-Es away in what is a must win match for Es-Es in their quest to avoid relegation.

So ................ let’s do it Ankaragucu !!!

All the best from Eski Kanka Jim

  2. As I said in the report, Parlak was much improved over his performances of the last few weeks ...... and months. However, his contribution is sporadic, and although his goal and assist were important, it doesn't merit Man of the Match.

It's players like Mbamba and Umut with their non stop effort, running, chasing and tackling back who are the real stars of the team !!!
