Such is life

A few of us Kankas headed off to the Red Lion Club on Sunday night for England's match against the Germans. I was surprised to see not only a bunch of Germans there, but then TRT showed up as well. I managed to record the clip this afternoon.

The translation goes sort of like this:

Studio presenter: We (TRT) watched the match in the English Embassy. We were with my colleague Irmak Alpagut. She did reporting. There were English, French, Germans. Lets look at the report and afterwards we will talk.

Voiceover: For the most important match to date in the World Cup the Germans and English watched the "early final" together in Ankara. During the match, at times voices were raised in happiness and sadness. Especially when the goal wasn't given to the English, the English revolt was great.

Commentator: describes the non-goal

Then a couple of interviews in English

Voiceover: It wasn't just English and German fans watching the match.

Sir Eski Kanka Jimbo: talks rubbish

Reporter Irmak Alpagut: In this match who were you supporting?

Little Oz Kanka Matthew: ahhh England.

Reporter Irmak Alpagut: But they lost.

Little Oz Kanka Matthew: Such is life.

Reporter Irmak Alpagut: You say, such is life. Whıch Turkish team do you support?

Little Oz Kanka Matthew: Ah, Turkey.

Reporter Irmak Alpagut: For example, Galatasaray, Fenerbahce?

Little Oz Kanka Matthew: Ah, Genclerbirligi.

Voiceover: As the final whistle went and the World Cup ended for the English they gentlemanly congratulated the Germans.

Studio presenters: Yes, such is life. That's true

Don't feel bad, Chris. My interview didn't make the cut either.

  3. Matthew was brilliant ..... as usual ! So was the young Ingallish girl (don't know her name).

btw, the only reason they put my bit in was because I diplomatically mentioned 'two individuals' who are highly rated at TRT !!!

    Who's a yalika ???!!!

The Germans there were very restrained in their celebrations.Very diplomatic.I DOUBT the English would have been the same if they had thrashed their great rivals 4-1 in a very important match.

  5. The point being that the Germans don't consider the English as their rivals, but you are right, they were quite restrained.

On another issue, you'll be unsurprised to learn that Vittek has seen his chance to up his status and wage packet. Can't say I blame him.

Hurriyet says he told Gazetta Dello Spor that "Ankaragucu doesn't excite me. I don't want to stay. My dream is to return to Germany."

  7. Thanks for the info Spine and for a player who has scored 4 goals in a World Cup Competition I'm sure there will be a few German Clubs chasing him. A nod's as good as a wink from Mr Vittek !

If and when he does go, Ahmet Bey will need to pull a rabbit out of the hat PDQ !

I don't recommend starting the season without a recognised quality striker !

im dissapointed in vittek if that is the case. This is a player who 6 months ago was on the bench at Lille until we rescued him and gave him forst team football. 4 goals later at the world cup were not good enough.

agree with you jim, we need a quality striker as thats where we struggled last season

Hope it all works out rosey for Mr Vittek."Ankaragucu doesnt excite me.I dont want to stay" Not exactly the type of quote that would enamour him to the fans if he DOESNT get his desired move away and ends up running out on the opening day of the season in the yellow and blue.
