Who is the new chairman of Ankaragucu?

Spine posted this in a comment. I think it deserves it's own post.

To follow up on Oz Kanka's post a few days ago on how little we know:

I spent a few minutes of my day today trying to answer the question "who is Haluk Ilican?" This service to this blog's loyal readers meant searching google and my company's database of turkish media reports. Total result: He's a bloke, probably from Kirikkale, who may be a "businessman".

The lack of curiosity and seriousness is incredible really. Admittedly Ilican only appeared as a candidate a couple of days before the congress, but no media organization has seen fit to ask even the most basic questions about him: His age, what business he's in, his marital status, his plans, his personal wealth, his criminal record, his pets. There's nothing.

What there is, is an awful lot of cutting and pasting of whatever Anatolia news agency says. Which in this case was very little.

rant over (and I may just be bad at googling)

A few more gleanings, only loosely fact-based:

    - he's more likely from Keskin.
    - people with the surname Ilican seem big in natural gas retailing in Keskin
    - he knows questions will be asked, telling the congress "Some may say I am a recent Ankaragucu supporter. Some may ask where this love for Ankaragucu comes from." (anatolia)
    - It's not entirely clear whether he's actually ever attended a game in his life.

Strengthening my suspicion that Ilican is neither Aydin, nor Gokcek, but MKE is this story from Vatan:

Employees at MKE -- the state arms manufacturer which builds heavy weapons in Kirikkale -- invited to contribute to supporting the club.

Is Ankaragucu being supported by the Turkish Military-Industrial Complex? Wouldn't be the first time.

Spine, who really ought to be working more.

Here's a must-watch video of the man I suspect now pulls some of the strings, General Ünal Önsipahioglu, head of MKE:

He says the company "owns" the club. I have no idea to what extent that is true, but his speech to the congress is interesting.

No, no. You are doing more than anyone in the Turkish media to figure out this mystery.

And here's Ilican's speech to the congress in which he acknowledges that he's an "import" who has only ever seen two matches (min 1:35ish). He offers himself as a third way between the Gokceks and CA. He also has a very thick accent and I don't get everything he says.

and here is some information about the debt status, specifically a list of the Gokcekite businessmen and women who have sued the club for payment of what I guess were loans made during the Gokcek administration. I guess these are not ALL the debts, just the ones that have led to the freezing of club assets through the courts.

Also the speech begins nicely: "Well I don't know what the debt is approximately. But I know the figures."

  8. This story is turning into a saga. It could even be used as a Soap Opera or a Hollywood Blockbuster !!!

Seriously though, as the story unfolds bit by bit I am beginning to have serious doubts if Ankaragucu will be able to survive in the Bank Aysa League ! How many more revelations can we expect before the end of the season ?
