Erzincan Refahiyespor 2-1 Ankaragucu

Ankaragucu lost 2-1 today in their first friendly in Antalya over the winter break. Teoman Erkan scored the only goal in a disappointing result against the local side. We can't read to much into a friendly match but it just shows how much the club needs to bring new players in especially with the sale of Umit Kurt and Sinan Kurumus.

News broke tonight that the congress has been postponed and will now take place on the 13th of January with the possibility that it will be moved to the 20th January. According to an interview with Orhan Sal, Mehmet Yiginir will wait until he speaks with Melih Gokcek tomorrow or Monday before making his decision on weather he will run for President.

Melih Gokcek has already stated he wouldn't recommend anyone to become Ankaragucu president so it remains to be seen if his close friend can convince him to change his mind.

  2. When standing on the walls of Ankara Castle recently I noticed the Mayis Stadium and also in my view was another 'arena'. Is that a defunct stadium, perhaps Ankaraspor?

    What exactly happened to Ankaraspor?

Also are there any fringe or lower league professional teams in Ankara, for example when I was in Prague I watched Viktoria Zizkow who exist alongside the three better known Prague teams?

  3. Calcioslavo, this question will be answered by our webmasters Oz Kanka and Bellshill Kanka in due course.

Good to hear from you Burra Kanka. You probably saw The Cebeci Stadium which was the original Ankara Stadium before 19 Mayis was built. I think it is being renovated at the moment because I understand there is some structural damage which needs to be fixed. However, perhaps our Maniac Kanka Harun can give us more information on the subject ?

Ankaraspor play out of the new stadium in Yenikent which is about 30 Kilometres out of Ankara near Sincan on the Istanbul Road. If you look back in our Blog you will see that the TFF banned them due to the wheeling and dealing which Melih Gokcek and his son Ahmet got up to when they were running Ankaraspor and Ankaragucu. It's a complicated story ! However, I believe that Ankaraspor will be readmitted to the PTT League next season.

There are a few fringe teams in the lower divisions in Ankara, eg, Keciorengucu and Ankara Demirspor. Also, the old Sekerspor which used to play out of Cebeci Stadium now play out in Kizilcahamam which is about 80 Kilometres out of Ankara on the Istanbul Road. Also, Bugassspor play out of Polatli, a town about 120 Kilometres from Ankara on the Eskisehir Road.

    Hope that helps ?

    1. Thanks for the response Eski. These teams are quite a way out of town it seems. I'm in Ankara soon but probably won't see any football.

Jim, also, two good goals for Zemmamma yesterday against the mighty Hastings, who incidently, brought 1066 + 2 fans to the game.

  4. Burra Kanka,
As Sir Eski said it was the Cebeci Stadium you could see. Gencler played their pre-season Sports Writers Cup matches there. Check out:

    1. Hi Bellshill.
I like the cafe at the top with the pancake things. Also in Feb last year the route up was sheer ice, but that didn't deter the 'souvenir sellers' on the route. Great stuff!
