Same old Ankaragucu !

After excellent victories over Tepecik and Alanyaspor, it was back to the same old rubbish from Ankaragucu that see them go into the playoffs instead of being champions. A 1-1 draw with a team sitting 1 side out of the relegation zone is just not good enough. Thankfully Alanyaspor also drew today which see us still sitting 2nd in the table.

Team - Bayram Olgun, Metin Aydin, Serhat Aykuz, Selim Teber, Onur Atasayer, Muhammed Gonulacar, Serhat Gulpinar, Kaan Kanak, Mehmet Erdem, Mehmet Cakir, Omer Yalcin

Subs - Gokhan Akkan, Aydin Toscali, Orhan Evci, Volkan Yilmaz, Mehmet Tasci, Bilal Gundogdu, Umut Nayir

Altinordu showed again why they are worthy champions with a 3-0 win over Kizilcahamamspor. Yet again i will mention they have the 2nd lowest budget in the league but have still managed to win the league at first time of asking.

Its important that Ankaragucu finish 2nd as the higher up the table we finish the better chance you have of avoiding the top teams in the playoff first round. With Levent Kale out injured today, it was a surprise to see Mehmet Umut Nayir dropped to the bench. The clubs top scorer however came off the bench in the 2nd half to put Ankaragucu 1-0 up.

From then on you would have expected Ankaragucu to go on and win the game, but Iskenderun grabbed a late equaliser to share the points.

Ankaragucu have 2 games remaining. Next week at home to Altay, before travelling to Bandirmaspor for the final game of the season before the playoffs. The new coach will need to get the team in shape for the playoffs could be one of the most important weeks in the clubs history.

  1. Yes, Nadeem, well said. Not good enough after the disappointment of the Ofspor match and trying to play 'catch up' with Altinordu unsuccessfully !

A strange decision by the Coach to leave Umut on the bench when he could have forged a partnership with the fast improving Erdem up front. At least he came on and did what he does best ....... score !

Putting the Play-Offs aside for the moment, it is all eyes on next Sunday for the last home match of the season against Altay. I remember watching Ankaragucu play Altay in their Super League days, so I'm sure they will be fired-up for this. All the more reason to open the scoring early and deflate them.

It's one game at a time now with another difficult match the following week in Bandirma. Being a footie fanatic is not an easy stress free life, especially if that team happens to be Ankaragucu !!!

  2. Do we have any idea of how many fans show up to matches like this? Are Ankaragucu the only team in this league with an actual fan base?

  3. Yes OZ Ankaragucu are the only ones with a decent fan base in this league. Altay are not to bad in terms of their fans, but the rest you get 1-2k max.

  4. Another interesting point from last weekend ............ Ankaragucu's last two opponents were playing each other and Bandirma thrashed Altay 6-2.

I'm sure that result has given the Coach food for thought, especially for the last match away in Bandirma, who look to be in the play-offs with Ankaragucu !!!

Every match will be a 'Cup Final' for Ankaragucu now until the Play Off winner is decided !

  5. I just don't know if Ankaragucu can show consistency and win the playoffs Jim

  6. We have to be confident that they will Nadeem, because if not, the consequences don't bear thinking about.

That said, whatever happens, the Kanka Group will continue as one !

  7. The kanka group shall of course continue no matter how crap out teams are. Just that some of my reports tend to be rather short when we are rubbish. This comment is already longer then some of my match reports.
