ANKARAGUCU – STALEMATE

Greetings Kankas and Kankies.

Ankaragucu made the perfect start to the match last night when they went ahead almost from the kick off, but they failed to capitalise to put Konyaspor under any serious pressure to build on their opening goal and put the match beyond Konya.

In Ali Sowe’s absence (injured), it is apparent just how valuable he is to the team.   His predatory skills, frequent tracking back to support the defence, and ........of course ......his goals, have been sorely missed   !

Despite the fact that Bajic scored the only goal last night, it doesn’t disguise the fact that he just does not have the ability to worry defenders, especially when playing as ‘The Lone Ranger’ up front   !!      Time will tell if he can prove me wrong.

The match was fairly evenly balanced and that is borne out by the statistic that both teams had only one shot on target in the entire match.

ANKARAGUCU            1                 Konyaspor            1

Team – Bahadir, Kitsou, Radakovic, Mujakic, Hanousek, Dokanovic, Turkmen, Morutan, Bekiroglu, Rodrigues and Bajic

Substitutes – Pedrinho, Renaldo, Guneren, Macheda and Bilazer

The first goal arrived in the 2nd minute from a fast break down the left wing.     Hanousek sent in a perfect cross into the box for Bajic to make contact before the defender alongside him.   Great start and the kankas at this stage were in optimistic mode for more to come.

However, that was not to be as Konya came more into the match, and they found the equaliser approaching the half hour mark.   From a fast attack on the left, the ball was crossed into the box which eluded the attackers and defenders, and behind them completely unmarked was the lurking Oguz who swept the ball in with Bahadir helpless.

Not much to say about the 2nd half except an Ankaragucu claim for a penalty with 10 minutes of the match remaining.    Hanousek sent in an inviting cross from the left which was cleared for a corner, but in doing so, a defender had used his arm and the referee pointed to the penalty spot.     However, the defender claimed that he had used his chest and a VAR check was made.     Result ......... no penalty   !!!

Having watched the replay, it looked to me like he had used his forearm   !!!

So, one point, which moves Ankaragucu closer to mid-table .........BUT .........only 3 points above the relegation zone   !!

A huge test awaits Ankaragucu next Saturday when they travel to play 2nd top of the league (and reigning champions) Galatasaray.

It will be interesting to see what formation Tolunay Bey deploys   ?!

As  always, watch this space for the outcome.

All the best from Eski Kanka Jim
