Turkish Cup 3rd round draw !
Both Ankaragucu and Genclerbirligi found out their 3rd round opponents this afternoon, and both can be happy with their outcomes. Genclerbirligi will play Etimesgut BB at home. Etimesgut also from Ankara knocked Kayseri Erciyesspor out in the last round.
Ankaragucu will travel to Tavsanli Linyitspor in what was the easiest tie Ankaragucu could have asked for due to us being unseeded. The winners from both ties will progress to the group stages.
for Gencler its another opportunity for European qualification, while for Ankaragucu the chance of TV revenue and games against Super Lig sides which will also bring in much needed income.
It would be nice to see both clubs progressing and meeting in the group stages which would give us a long awaited Ankara derby.

OK, it's definitely a good draw for Ankaragucu but on the downside it's a bummer that it's an away match.
ReplyDeleteIf you recall, when prior to being relegated from the PTT League and still serving a Stadium Ban from the Konyaspor match, we went to Tavsanli and were also punished again for swearing in their tiny stadium. So, my guess is that the Ankaragucu fans will be barred from attending this match.
Anyway, if the players can reach the Group Stage then that will be an achievement and, as you say Nadeem, give the Club some much needed dosh from some Cup matches. It will also be great for us to witness Ankaragucu playing against a Super League team and see how the players react to the 'pressure' !!
We didn't get the match ban just for swearing at Tavşanlı: So-called fans also threw a "torpedo-shaped sound bomb at Ankaragücü's own players. https://www.facebook.com/AnkaragucuHaberleri/posts/507811695947864
ReplyDeleteAaaaaah yes. I forgot about that John - not that I want to remember those 'orrible things.
ReplyDeleteDamon and I witnessed lottsa those at the Konyaspor match which I mentioned in my previous comment, in addition to the other projectiles flying around all over the place. Nasty things which thankfully we haven't seen this season. Hopefully we will never see them again !
