Greetings Kankas
and Kankies.
After Week No4
Gencler remain undefeated and sit in 3rd top position in the League
which is an amazing improvement on their form over the past few seasons.
They are playing
an attacking 4-4-2 system for the most part, even in away matches, and long may
that continue.
However, they
conceded most of the possession to Corum last night but the Gencler defence is
not as leaky as last season !! Also, Gencler had Cetin to thank for a
string of excellent saves, and it came as no surprise to learn that he has been
called up into the Turkish Under 21 National Squad for upcoming matches.
Back to last
night and ............
Corum 0 GENCLERBIRLIGI 1
Team – Cetin,
Wu, Babacan, Nzaba, Yasin, Enes, S. Yatabare, Ugur Akdemir, Erturk, M. Yatabare
and Amilton
Substitutes –
Akabueze, Ozturk, Kemaloglu, Cek and Karakullukcu
Cetin was called
into action for the first time after 20 minutes when he made a great
instinctive save from a goal bound shot inside the 6 yard box.
On the half hour
mark he was called into action again when he touched a goal bound header onto
the post and the ball was cleared by a defender who was well placed.
Into time added
on in the 1st half and Gencler turned the match on its head with an
opportunist goal. From a Gencler
corner, the ball was not cleared by the defence and it fell kindly for Amilton in
the 6 yard box who lashed the ball in.
Corum could feel
aggrieved at losing a goal on the half time whistle after having the lion’s
share of possession and chances, but as we all know, the name of the game is
putting the round thing in the back of the net
!!
Into the 2nd
half and Corum stepped up the pressure as they searched for a way back into the
match and Ankaragucu ‘old boy’ Geraldo almost set it up when he sent in an
inviting cross for Toure, but his header was just over the bar.
Then, Geraldo
appeared to be brought down in the box, but after checking VAR the referee
waved the claim aside.
Approaching the
final whistle and it was Wu to the rescue as he cleared a goal bound shot off
the line, and in the last action of the match Cetin saved a goal bound shot.
Gencler
certainly rode their luck at times during the match, but their defence, and
Cetin in particular, held firm and 3 valuable points were earned to boost
morale for a top of the table clash up next.
Next weekend is
the International Break, so Gencler will be in action next at home on Sunday 17
September against league leaders Eyupspor.
As always, watch
this space for the details.
All the best
from Eski Kanka Jim
