ANKARAGUCU AND THE VASSEL SAGA

Greetings Kankas and Kankies.

As reported in The Posta today, Vassel is coming back to Ankara tomorrow and will undergo a medical. I am assuming therefore that the financial transfer details have been settled.

So, when (or if !) he passes his medical tomorrow, he will join the team in the summer camp in Austria. Whether he will be fit enough to play for 90 minutes in the Ankara Sportswriters Cup on 31 July remains to be seen, but at least he can come on in the 2nd half and score the winning goal yessssssssssssssssss !!!

Good news is hard to come by these days. Let's hope this is not the only good news we can report on this season ?!

All the best from Eski Kanka in Side Antalya

PS ...... It's Hell here ........... the sea is too warm and the Efes is too cold !!!

Wow. He rhymed that. How about we go and get Beckham. They dont want him in LA. Some fan got a lifetime ban for trying to come of the field and assault him.

Looks like Vassel has signed and received a 'hero's welcome' from 3,000 fans (there's a video on Turk.Net. Do they know how bad his scoring record is?

As an aside, how much do players in Ankara get paid, If a season tickets costs only TL60?

    Regards,

  7. Ankaragucu wrapped up their summer camp last night going down 0-1 to Italian side Brescia.

I wonder if Battle Damaged Kanka's Italian blood was coursing through his veins faster than normal when Brescia scored the winner ??!! Did he leap out of his seat and shout ........ yesssssssssssssssss ??!!

Looking forward to his retort !!!

  8. Off Topic With Apologies.

I see Gencler have lost Troisi to Kayseri because of some contractual hocus-pocus. Cavcav is accusing Kayseri of ungentlemanly conduct and generally being cleverer than he is. He'll take it to the courts, apparently, and will never again allow wee James to wear a Gencler shirt.

It used to be that even if Gencler were losing, Cavcav could be relied on to make smart decisions on the transfer market and make money from it. We'd be able to watch the talent for the half a season it took for him to sell them on at a profit. Now, it seems, he can't even do that.

  9. No apologies necessary from Spine bearing in mind that this is an Ankaragucu AND Genclerbirligi website !

Sorry to hear that 'Wee James' is moving on. It will be particularly disappointing for Oz Kanka to lose one of his countrymen.

However, I'm sure the 'Big Match' on Friday night will still be a closely contested affair between the two clubs even without Troisi.

Bring on the footie again yesssssssss !

  11. Thanks for the info Bellshill Kanka Nadeem. Obviously on the back of the Vassel transfer me thinks ?

However, there was nothing in the newspapers this morning about it. Can you give us some more info about Henderson and when he is likely to come. From his name, it sounds like he is Scottish ? If so, we will make contact with him if and when he shows up here.

Quoted below from Wikipedia about Ian Henderson. Maybe this is the man they think can give the good "through ball" for the streaking Vassell? Dunno.

"Henderson is a product of the youth academy at Norwich City and was heralded as a very promising young player. His first team debut came in October 2002 against Coventry City at Highfield Road, with his first goal for the club arriving in a 4–2 defeat at Wimbledon. Henderson was a prominent member of England Youth Representative sides up to the Under-20 Age Group.

The 2003–04 season saw Henderson win a first division championship medal as Norwich won promotion to the Premier League. He scored four goals - including 2 in a 3–1 victory over Millwall - and created a number of goals for other players. He signed a new contract in the summer of 2004 but found it difficult to establish himself in the team, making only a handful of appearances in the two subsequent seasons. His Norwich career suffered a further set back as a result of injuries. After recovering, he signed for Rotherham United in January 2007 on a loan deal that ran until the end of the 2006–07 season.

Henderson scored his only goal for Rotherham in their last home game of the season, a 4–2 defeat to Cheltenham Town. His contract with Norwich now finished, he signed a two-year deal with Northampton Town on 28 June 2007. On 27 December 2008, Northampton terminated his contract after he failed to score in 33 first team games.

Henderson signed for Luton Town on a short-term contract on 2 January 2009, and went on to make 18 league appearances in the 2008–09 season, scoring once. He was not offered a new contract at the end of the season, and was subsequently released from Luton. Henderson was on trial with Turkish Super League side Ankaragucu, after a successful trial with the team he signed a two year contract keeping him at the club until the Summer of 2011."

  14. Hey Mountain Man. Thanks for all the info on Henderson - seems to me that you have too much spare time on your hands in Erzurum ?!! Looking forward to seeing you both 8/9 August !

Not a very impressive goal scoring CV for a striker me thinks. However, perhaps Hikmet Bey has other plans for him, eg, to use him as a foil for Vassel and Jaba ?

It will therefore be interesting to see if he makes the 1st team on a regular basis. After all, remember how many times Iglesias, Metin and Mehmet were used as subs last season !

  16. Eski,

What can I say? Brescia is a second division team coming from a city with a population of UNDER 200,000 people. Ankaragucu is in the Süperlig and comes from the capital city the population of which outnumbers that of Brescia by more than 3 million. I am not a big Brescia fan, but they did have Baggio on their squad at one point, which earns them points in my book.
