Greetings Kankas
and Kankies.
Rize had most of
the possession in the 1st half and should have put the match beyond
Gencler after all the chances they had.
Delayed shots, headers and shots over the bar and past the post was
their undoing.
Tunay in
particular scorned several golden opportunities and Gencler were rather
fortunate to go in at half time only one goal down, especially as they didn’t
have one shot on target in the 1st half.

Rizespor 1 GENCLERBIRLIGI 1
Team –
Nordfeldt, Piris, Toure, Arda, Polomat, Diego, Soner, Yilmaz, Candeias, Furman
and Sio
Substitutes –

The goal came
early in the 1st half in the 7th minute. A cross came in from the right and 2
defenders tackled one Rize attacker at the same time, but all 3 players got in
each others way in a tangle and the loose ball fell nicely for Skoda who had
the easiest tasks of tapping in.
The 2nd
half was only 10 minutes old when Tunay missed a real sitter in the 6 yard box
when he scuffed his shot wide of the post when it was easier to score.
5 minutes later
Rize was awarded a penalty when the referee pointed to Arda for a foul in the
crowded penalty box following a corner.
However, he received a message in his earpiece and gave a free kick to
Gencler instead. The replay was
inconclusive to me due to the number of bodies challenging for the ball from
the corner !!
The Gencler
equaliser came in the 63rd minute and the Rize goalkeeper, Gokhan, must accept responsibility for it. A Gencler forward received the ball on the
right goal line and Gokhan made to go and smother the ball as he received it,
but then hesitated which allowed the forward to shoot. Gokhan parried the ball straight into the
path of the inrushing Soner who stroked the ball in.
10 minutes to go
and Candeias should have made it 2 for Gencler when he had a clear sight of
goal well inside the box on the right, but blasted his shot past the right
post.
5 minutes later
and another chance arrived for Gencler from a defensive error by Rize. Candeias seized on it and made for
goal. His shot just inside the box was
well saved, but parried by Gokhan and the follow-up shot was cleared off the
line by a defender.
There was time
for Rize to have 2 goal chances but a goal bound shot and header were well
saved by Nordfeldt.
Rize made too
many silly mistakes in the 2nd half and lost their way, which handed
the initiative to Gencler, who like Rize in the 1st half, didn’t
take their chances.
So, I suppose
you could say that a draw was a fair result
?!
Next up for
Gencler in a home match against high flying Hatay who sit in the top half of the league on Wednesday.
As always, watch
this space for the outcome.
All the best
from Eski Kanka Jim
