Greetings Kankas

Despite having
two key players (Kevin and Diack) absent for various reasons, Ankaragucu pulled
out all the stops last night to move into mid-table position in the league. They may be only 4 points above the
relegation zone, but on their performances over the past month, it is unlikely
that Ankaragucu will be sucked back into the danger zone.
Ankaragucu made
heavy work of going in all square at half time against a Konya team who hit the
woodwork in the 1st half and Ankaragucu had Gokhan to thank for
making a tremendous save.
However,
Ankaragucu moved up a gear in the 2nd half and started to show the
intensity and passion that was so evident during the recent Besiktas
match. Their reward was a superb goal
crafted by a team high on confidence.
Konyaspor 0 ANKARAGUCU 1
Team – Gokhan,
Atakan, Mujakic, Radakovic, Marlon, Tolga, Pedrinho, Zahid, Tasos, Emre and Ali
Sowe
Substitutes –
Firatcan, Giorgi, Taylan, Yasin and Ariyibi
The first chance
of the match fell to Ankaragucu in the 10th minute when Zahid
latched onto a defensive mistake and drove into the box. Unfortunately, his snatched pass to Tasos
who was unmarked in the centre was intercepted and the danger cleared.
5 minutes later
and Gokhan pulled off the save of the match.
(Ankaragucu old boy) Cekici sent a fierce goal bound shot from a free
kick inside the left post which Gokhan somehow reached and turned the ball
round the post for a corner.
3 minutes later
after more pressure from Konya and a bullet of a shot from outside the box hit
the outside of the post and was cleared.
The Ankaragucu
defence held firm during the closing stages of the 1st half and us
kankas were high on optimism for the 2nd half.
Our optimism
wasn’t misplaced !!!
Only 5 minutes
into the 2nd half and Ankaragucu made the break-through and what a
classic goal it was too. Marlon made
a break down the left and nearing the goal line looked up and crossed to the
far post for Ali. A measured header
was sent into the centre for Zahid to power in an unstoppable shot.
Konya almost
snatched an equaliser half way through the 2nd half following a
corner, but an attacker’s attempt to connect with the ball was miscued and the
danger was cleared.
A few minutes
later Ali was brought down just outside the box on the left, but Tolga’s free
kick attempt was straight into the Wall and cleared.
Ankaragucu saw-out
the remainder of the match, and at the end, the players quite rightly went to
the large contingent of Ankaragucu supporters who had made the Monday night
journey to Konya to applaud them for their vociferous support throughout the
match.
So, onwards and
upwards, and Ankaragucu will be at home on Saturday to Gaziantep who are
lurking 3 points behind Ankaragucu in the league table. Confidence is high and I expect another
3 points for Ankaragucu to move further up the table.
As always, watch
this space for the outcome.
All the best
from Eski Kanka Jim
