ANKARAGUCU – INCONSISTENCY RESURFACES !!!

Greetings Kankas and Kankies.

Ankaragucu missed a golden opportunity to move into the mid-table positions yesterday after failing to beat opposition who should have been brushed aside (at least on paper   !!).

However, once again (as in the Adana Demirspor match) they found a goalkeeper, Gunay Guvenc, in inspired form who thwarted Ankaragucu throughout the match.     Ankaragucu had 17 shots on goal and 60% possession   !!

Due to other circumstances both Nady and I were unable to watch the match, but our fellow kankas kept us in touch during the match and with their observations post-match, and a special thanks to our Spanish Kanka Antonio and Kemal Kanka for their comments.

ANKARAGUCU          0                    Gaziantep           2

Team – Gokhan, Atakan, Radakovic, Mujakic, Marlon, Tolga, Diack, Zahid, Taylan, Emre and Ali Sowe

Substitutes – Pedrinho, Yasin, Giorgi and Firatcan

Djilobodji scored in the 47th minute and the 2nd was scored by Figueiredo in 7 minutes into time-added-on at the end of the match.

Antonio’s comments are as follows –

Ankaragucu had a one-on-one with Gunay on two occasions during the match and failed both times.

Gunay saved a goal bound header.

Ankaragucu should have had a penalty in the first 10 minutes of the match, but the VAR Assistant didn’t call the referee’s attention to it   !!

Ankaragucu lost their concentration at the beginning of the 2nd half and conceded what was the crucial goal.

Towards the middle of the 2nd half an element of the Ankaragucu supporters vented their fury on Emre and Captain Tolga  (that will do wonders for their confidence........NOT   !!!).

The 2nd goal in time added on was the result of a breakaway by Antep with Ankaragucu searching for the equaliser.

Thanks again Antonio   !

Also, a quote from Kemal Kanka ....... Gunay changed the game   !

So, to the future, and Ankaragucu don’t need to hit the panic button yet, but their position is still perilous sitting in 12th position in the league and only 3 points above the relegation zone.

However, they have another excellent opportunity to climb up the table on Saturday when they will be at home again to Fatih Karagumruk who sit 2 places above Ankaragucu in the league.

In view of yesterday’s surprise defeat, this will be another of those MUST WIN matches and no excuses can be offered for failure.

Do it Ankaragucu   !!!

All the best from Eski Kanka Jim
