In the end it was all fairly easy and
Gencler stay at the top of their Turkish cup group
Genclerbirligi 4 - 0 Cizrespor
A couple of hundred fans for Gencler
and, impressively, a couple of busload of fans from Cizre were at the
Cebeci stadium to watch a procession.
As you can see in the photo I was
unable to attend and so hogged the bandwidth at work. As predicted,
Gencler put out a “youth” team with the only regular player in
the starting eleven being Petrovic.
And it was lanky midfielder who scored
first with a penalty after about 30 minutes.
That was it for Cizre. They made a few
attacks and probably deserved at least one goal... then again there
were two clear-cut penalties that the referee refused to award
against the south-eastern team.
Anyway, the youngsters got a bit of a
workout and it all finished nicely.
With only one match left in the Group Stage, Gencler are already assured of finishing top of their Group. Gencler's last match is away to Konya on 4 February.
ReplyDeleteAnkaragucu has long given up hope of progressing in their Group and their last match will be a meaningless encounter away to 4 Eylul Sivas on 5 February.
Well done Gencler for keeping Ankara's interest in the Cup alive !
