Greetings Kankas
and Kankies.
Losing all 3
points was rather harsh on Erzurum today, but with both teams in the bottom
half of the league, there is no charity, and all points won are considered part
of the lifeline to safety.
Erzurumspor 0 GENCLERBIRLIGI 1
Team –
Nordfeldt, Pehlivan, Piris, Arda, Johanssen, Ozdemir, Furman, Sio, Soner, Ayite
and Stancu
Substitutes –
Yildirim, Yilmaz, Altiparmak and Ilker
The 1st half was evenly contested with both teams having opportunities. Furkan came closest to opening the scoring
with a left foot shot that was destined for the back of the net on the left,
but all credit to Farnolle who made an excellent save and pushed the ball away
for a corner.
Erzurum almost
equalised 10 minutes from the end of the match when they had a free kick on the
right just outside the box. A left foot
shot was sent to the right and was well saved by Nordfeldt.
From his
clearance, Gencler attacked down the right wing and the ball was played into
Stancu near the penalty spot who’s shot was parried into the path of the
unmarked Yilmaz who then stroked the ball in for a well taken goal.
Then in the 89th
minute Erzurum thought that their deserved equaliser had arrived. A shot was made just inside the box on the
right, but the ball was cleared to just outside the box where Sissoko was
lurking unmarked. He sent in an
exquisite left foot shot to the top left corner. However, sadly for him and Erzurum, the
goal was chalked off.
I have to
confess that I’m not 100% sure why, but I can only assume that one or more
Erzurum players had strayed offside as Sissoko shot and the referee may have
deemed that they were interfering with play or obstructing the goalkeeper.
So, the bottom
line is that Gencler move out of the bottom 3 as Erzurum slip into the bottom
3.
Gencler are at
home next Sunday for the Ankara Derby against Ankaragucu, and as you would
expect, league placings will be unimportant in a Derby. We can expect a real battle for crucial
points and it is sure to be an entertaining match !!
All the best
from Eski Kanka Jim
