Greetings Kankas
and Kankies.
As I’ve said
many times writing Gencler reports, they are full of surprises and today was no
exception.
Mustafa Kaplaor has them well drilled to chase every ball and
harry their opponents for 90 plus, and coupled with the fact that Alanya may have
under-estimated a team sitting 2nd bottom of the league, that was probably
all the motivation Gencler needed.
GENCLERBIRLIGI 2 Alanyaspor 1
Team –
Nordfeldt, Johanssen, Arda, Toure, Polomat, Piris, Berat, Candeias, Soner, Sio
and Stancu
Substitutes –
Altiparmak, Yildirim, Yilmaz and Pehlivan
There was little
to separate the teams in the 1st half with both teams only having
one serious attempt on target until 5 minutes before the break.
Berat surprised the
Alanya defence when he picked up a loose ball just outside the box on the left
and sent in a fierce shot which went in just inside the left post with Marafona
unable to reach it.
I fully expected
Alanya to come out for the 2nd half in a more determined fashion,
but they allowed Gencler to take the initiative and Gencler continued to chase
everything and not allow Alanya time on the ball.
.
Gencler’s 2nd
goal came 15 minutes before the final whistle from a fast breakaway on the left
when Sio picked the ball up and drove forward down the left wing. He looked up and cut the ball back between 2
defenders for Candeias to tap in.
Alanya was
awarded a lifeline back into the game with 10 minutes remaining when they were
awarded a penalty. Bakasetas sent the
ball high into the centre with Nordfeldt diving to his right. A perfect penalty.
Gencler was
under pressure now as Alanya searched for the equaliser and again they were
given a lifeline almost at the end when Arda struck an attacker’s face while
challenging for a ball in the box.
Nordfeldt was the hero this time as he pulled off a fantastic save with the
ball struck cleanly and destined for inside the right post.
The last action
was in the 96th minute when the Alanya Coach was shown a Red Card
for something he said to the 4th Official.
So, Gencler can
celebrate their 2nd win of the season and in the process move up to
3rd bottom above Denizli, at least until tomorrow when Denizli take
on Fener.....spit....bahce.
Gencler are again
in action next Sunday when they travel to Erzurum, which could in effect be
another of those 6 pointers if Erzurum lose to Konya today.
All the best
from Eski Kanka Jim
