Omer Bozan - Round Ball in Ankara 2016/17 player of the year!

What a difference a year makes when it comes to Omer Bozan and his rollercoaster career with Ankaragucu. Last season he missed the last few games after refusing to play for the club due to unpaid wages. It looked like he had played his last game for the club until management resolved the issue at the start of this season and he hasn't looked back.

Omer had a good season for Ankaragucu last season and it was a big blow to the club losing him as it all but ended their hopes of making the playoffs. The club have made a number of new signings this season who have been instrumental in helping the club win the league. The best piece of business though was keeping Omer and he has more than earned his dollars with a fantastic season finishing as the clubs top goalscorer with 11 goals.

Scoring 11 goals from midfield is a fantastic achievement at any level, and even more impressive when you actually look at the goals he scored. Omer doesn't seem to score bad goals, they all seem to be rockets into the type corner, or free kicks giving the opposing keepers no chance.

You just have to look at the amount of games Ankaragucu were struggling and Omer stepped up with the winning goal to give the team the all important 3 points. The game against 1461 Trabzon was heading for a disappointing 0-0 draw until Omer stepped up on the 94th minute to score a fantastic free kick.

Having spent the majority of his career in the Turkish lower leagues, Omer will finally get a deserved chance to play in the PTT Lig and will again be a key player for the club. There's no doubting his talent and his strengths are his incredible technique and skill which could see him go all the way to the Super Lig with hard work and under the right guidance.

We would like to wish him all the best and after a week of voting on the Round Ball in Ankara Facebook page he was a clear winner ahead of the likes of Korcan Celikay and Serkan Balci.

  1. Well said Nadeem, and congratulations to Omer on a well deserved successful season. Also, to the whole team who have given their all, especially in the run-in when the pressure was full on.
